Chapter Four

"You'll have to meet him," Patrick said, looking out the window. "You'll go with Isabella," he added. Brandon did not understand how Isabella's presence would make anything better.

"Why should I go with her?" He asked, hoping his grandfather hadn't told her about him.

"Because she's more sensible than you," Patrick said. "Belev and Isabella have history. It'll benefit you. And try not to get her into any more trouble."

"Have you told her about me?" Brandon couldn't stop himself from asking. He understood the part about getting her into trouble.

"No. That's your job," Patrick said.

"Huh? How's she going to help if she doesn’t know the truth? And what's she helping me with?!" Brandon asked.

"I already told you. She's more sensible than you," Patrick said.

"But…" Brandon began to protest, but Patrick cut him off.

"Keep it down, boy. It's past bedtime. See you tomorrow," Patrick walked out of the room immediately.

Brandon lay on the bed, feeling lost. Something was not right with the way he felt. He felt like everything was missing. He wanted his warm and soft bed. He wanted to feel the gentle hands of a woman. He wanted to hear the annoying voices of his mum and Jenifer. He wanted his dad to call in a business-like manner. And Priscilla, he wanted to give her a big bear hug. And Ryan, he wanted to tell him everything. He closed his eyes as the hurt seized his chest. A lot had been happening since he had arrived, and he hadn’t thought of Ryan for a while.

If Ryan ever found out he met someone like Isabella and not tried it on with her, he wouldn't believe it. Brandon was the type to make his intentions clear from the start. If he wanted a woman for a one-night stand, he would let her know as early as they got talking. If he wanted a relationship, he knew the right words to make her understand. However, with Isabella, he didn't even understand himself.

Whenever she came to Patrick's lab, he had caught himself staring at her. She intrigued him and scared him all the same. He wasn’t sure what he wanted with her. If he said he wanted her as a friend, that would be annoying. Priscilla was already annoying, and they were really close siblings. Having another woman in his life who is equally irritating and surprisingly enchanting, he dismissed the idea of keeping her as a friend.

He remembered the near-fall in the research institute. He didn't want to let go of her waist. Girls in his time did all sorts to make their waists as tiny as ever. However, Isabella's was the most minuscule waist he had ever held. He wanted to see it. He wanted to hold it again. Brandon closed his eyes and scoffed at the kind of thoughts he was having at a serious time like this.

Suddenly, a loud crash outside made Brandon jump from the bed. He rushed to the window to see a big tree that separated the main building from the underground laboratory had been set on fire.
